The Seychelles Clearing House Mechanism (Sey-CHM) is the Seychellois version of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) clearing house mechanism aimed at promoting, enabling access to and sharing of information and technologies for the sustainable management of biodiversity in Seychelles. This website provides biodiversity information in form of metadata, reports, published papers, photographs and stakeholder links in Seychelles.

Biodiversity is defined as the variability among living organism from all sources including marine and other ecosystems and the ecological complexes of which they are part; this includes diversity within species, and of ecosystems. Precisely, biodiversity refers to the variety of life on earth.

Seychelles is a Party to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), having signed the Convention in 1992 and ratified it on 29 December 1993. The Convention has three objectives: the conservation of biodiversity, the sustainable use of components of biodiversity, and the fair and equitable sharing of benefits arising from the utilization of genetic resources. As Party to the Convention, Seychelles is required to implement the various articles of the Convention as well as the relevant Decisions of the Conference of the Parties (COP).

CHM is not only critical for sharing information on biodiversity, but contributes to the implementation of CBD in general. During COP10, which took place in October 2010 in Nagoya, Japan, Parties adopted the mission, goals and objectives of CHM for the period 2011- 2020. The mission of CHM for the period 2011-2020 is to contribute significantly to the implementation of the CBD and its Strategic Plan for the 2011-2020 period, through effective information services and other appropriate means in order to promote and facilitate scientific and technical cooperation, knowledge sharing and information exchange, and to establish a fully operational network of Parties and partners.
